Fitness Trainers Get Way More Free Time Using Leverage

Time management is something all business professionals deal with. In a personal trainer’s business, you are also dealing with the schedules of your clients. Though most people have some idea how to plan their day, very few really utilize the power of leveraging time.

Often people are used to organizing work around a list. Some are required to do so. We know that at 8:15 a.m. we have a meeting, followed by clients at intervals from 8:30 until noon; an hour for lunch, then afternoon activities broken down until 5 pm.. At home, there are usually chores associated with dinner, getting kids ready for bed, etc.

That’s a schedule. Yet it does not prove to be an efficient way to manage your time.

Leveraging means balancing. It’s important to have a healthy balance of your time.

If you want more balance in your life you'll need to pause and figure out where you stand. You will have to evaluate where you are now.

Journal your time for several days, preferably a whole week. Then go back and discover how much time you spent with family and friends.

  • Did you enjoy a hobby throughout the time?

  • Are you reading to expand your mind, imagination, or knowledge?

  • How much exercise were you able to do?

  • Did you read anything during the trial period?

  • If yes, were you in it for work or just for the fun of it?

  • To reach a specific personal goal, how much time was alloted for it?

If you are a traditional follower of a “to do” list, you will probably find several areas lacking when evaluating your trial period. Figure out how much time you spent on what. How much time did you spend for business, family, personal growth, reading and other interests? Take note of the percentages. What percent of your time was spent on work versus family and other areas important to you? This might be a real eye opener!

This little journaling project gives you a chance to look at how you live your life and then choose how to change. Figure out what kind of time you want to devote to each aspect of your life.

When you leverage your time and deliberately choose how to spend it, you're no longer a slave to the lists! The “to do” list is an important way to track chores, but life should be more than a chore.
